When I learned Bud and Barbara’s book was being published, I was so excited and hoped to get a chance to attend a Connect group if offered. I was a bit discouraged when I discovered it would be offered on a Wednesday night; my husband wouldn’t be able to attend because of serving in Tribe. Bud said to “just come.” So I did! My experience with the group looked differently than the others, however it didn’t mean the outcome was any different. This is how we navigated through each weekly chapter. I purchased one workbook, although everyone is encouraged to have their own. Each group meeting, I attended by myself and over the days after, I shared insights from the previous class with my husband. Through the week, I read the chapter, highlighted key points, completed the homework, and we agreed on what night worked best to have our 10:25 Meeting. During our meeting, I read the chapter highlights, scriptures, and asked him the questions. He verbally answered the questions and I also read to him my written answers. On Sundays, I tried to introduce him to some of the others in the group, so he could make connections with them as well; if he hadn’t already met them. The couples in our group were fantastic. I hope to have made lifelong friendships. Each weekly discussion was informative and respectful. Being the only one attending with no spouse present, made me more self-aware of my role in our marriage. It helped me to focus on my communication, actions, and most importantly my reactions. If you’re unsure or maybe your spouse won’t be able to attend, “just come.” You won’t be disappointed. Although be prepared, your marriage is about to change as you reconnect.

We were going through this book as a family and it helped our marriage reconnect. Praise God.
